Cat Kits

Sleeping Cats

The easiest cat design. The body is one large shape, the fur detail is soft, and there is no eye contact to get right. Good for a first pet portrait.

Cat Faces

Eyes, whiskers and muzzle. The face carries the whole piece, so it needs 40x50 cm or larger to keep the features readable.

Black Cats

The hardest cat palette. Most of the canvas sits in a narrow range of dark tones, which makes the numbers hard to distinguish without a bright task lamp.

Dog Kits

Breed Portraits

Labradors, huskies, french bulldogs and retrievers. Breed-specific designs sell to owners who recognise their own dog, and the markings give the conversion clear zones.

Puppies

High contrast and simple shapes. These are the most gifted dog designs because the subject is universally appealing.

Short and Long Coats

Short-haired breeds are the easiest palette, with clear markings and smooth shading. Long-haired breeds need 50x60 cm where the coat texture can survive.

Painting Fur Without Losing the Shape

Dark to Light

Start with the darkest fur and move toward the highlights. The shadow defines the shape, and the lighter tones sit on top of it.

Follow the Growth

Brush strokes should follow the way the fur lies. Random strokes turn a coat into a texture block and lose the anatomy underneath.

Eyes and Whiskers Last

Eyes anchor the face, and whiskers go on with the smallest brush and almost no paint. Painting either early means covering them again.

Portrait Sizes That Work

30x40 cm

A sleeping cat or a head-and-shoulders crop of a short-haired dog. Not enough for a detailed face.

40x50 cm

The practical minimum for a pet portrait. Eyes, nose and markings read at normal viewing distance.

50x60 cm and Above

Two animals, a full-body pose, or a long-haired breed where the coat is the subject.

Custom Pet Portraits

When a Stock Design Is Enough

When the breed and pose match closely, and the point is the type of animal rather than the individual.

When to Order Custom

When the point is your own pet. A custom photo kit reproduces the actual animal, including markings no stock design will have. For wildlife, see the wider animal collection.
